Alex, Sam, and Maya share a flat. They want common areas handled fairly, but work schedules mean a single Saturday cleaning rota never lasts. They create one board called “Flat 12” and give each task its own order.
The shared boundary is explicit
The board includes the bathroom, common-room floor, recycling, and buying bin bags. Bedrooms, personal dishes, and individual laundry stay outside the shared system.
Not every rotation is identical
All three roommates rotate bathroom cleaning and floors. Alex and Maya handle recycling because Sam’s accessibility needs make the outside bin route unsuitable. Bin bags are an on-demand rotation for everyone.
Each chore has its own rhythm
Bathroom cleaning repeats weekly, floors every two weeks, and recycling weekly on collection day. Buying shared bin bags has no date; whoever notices the last roll completes the on-demand turn after replacing it.
A missed turn stays visible
Maya is away when recycling is due, so the group explicitly skips her turn. Alex becomes responsible while the original date stays visible. When Alex completes it, the next weekly date is calculated from that completion.
